Hyundai Roadside Assistance: What's Actually Covered

If you've ever stared at a dead battery in an OU parking garage or watched steam roll out from under the hood on I-35, you already know why roadside coverage matters. Hyundai includes it with every new vehicle, but most owners never open the booklet until they need it. Here's the plain-English version of what you actually get, how long you get it, and how to use it when the day comes.

What Hyundai Roadside Assistance Includes

Every new Hyundai sold in the U.S. comes with Hyundai Complimentary Roadside Assistance for 5 years with unlimited miles. That's separate from the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and the 5-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty. Coverage starts the day the vehicle is delivered to the first retail owner, and it stays with the car through the 5-year window even if you sell it.

The core services you can call for, 24/7:

  • Towing to the nearest authorized Hyundai dealer if the vehicle is disabled
  • Battery jump-start when the car won't crank
  • Flat tire assistance — they'll swap on your spare if you have one
  • Lockout service when the key is inside and you are not
  • Emergency fuel delivery if you run dry (you pay for the fuel, not the trip)
  • Extrication if the vehicle is stuck in mud, snow, or a ditch and can be reached by a standard tow truck from a normal road

Hyundai also offers trip-interruption reimbursement when a warranty-related breakdown happens more than 150 miles from home. That can cover meals, lodging, and rental transportation up to a daily and per-incident cap. Save your receipts — it's a real benefit, but it's reimbursement, not a credit card at the front desk.

What's Not Covered (Read This Part)

This is where people get frustrated at 11 p.m. on a shoulder, so let's be honest about the limits.

  • The cost of parts and repairs isn't covered by roadside — that falls under warranty or your wallet. Roadside gets you and the car to the shop.
  • Off-road recovery beyond what a standard truck can reach from a paved or maintained road is not covered. If you're 400 yards down a muddy pasture road near Lake Thunderbird, you may be paying the winch operator.
  • Impound tows, accident tows, and repossession tows aren't roadside events.
  • Mounting a tire you brought with you or installing a tire from your trunk that isn't the factory spare isn't part of the flat-tire service.
  • Fuel itself, replacement keys, and locksmith rekeying beyond a simple lockout are your cost.
  • Repeated abuse of the service — Hyundai reserves the right to decline coverage for excessive claims that suggest neglect rather than an emergency.

None of this is a gotcha. It's the same fine print you'd find with Toyota, Honda, or Kia. The point is to know before you call so you're not surprised.

How to Actually Use It

Two ways to reach Hyundai Roadside Assistance: call 1-800-243-7766 (1-800-2-HYUNDAI), or use the MyHyundai app or Bluelink button in the vehicle if your car has connected services active. Bluelink can share your GPS location automatically, which matters if you don't know the exit number on I-40 or you're on a county road at night.

What they'll ask for:

  1. Your VIN or license plate
  2. Your location (mile marker, cross street, or dropped pin)
  3. What's wrong — dead battery, flat, won't start, locked out
  4. Where you want the car towed if a tow is needed

A tip from the service drive: if the car is drivable but acting up, ask for the tow to Norman Hyundai rather than the closest shop. You keep continuity on warranty repairs, and our techs already have your service history. If you're not sure whether it's a warranty issue, err on the side of getting it to us — we'll sort it out on our end.

Preventing the Call in the First Place

Most roadside calls we hear about fall into three buckets: batteries that quit in July heat or January cold, tires that pick up nails from construction zones, and running out of fuel because the low-fuel light lies to optimistic drivers. All three are largely preventable.

Batteries in Oklahoma typically last 3-5 years, and August is when weak ones give up. If yours is over three years old, get it load-tested during your next oil change — our battery replacement service includes the test. Tires deserve the same attention: a quick tire rotation visit lets us catch sidewall damage and low tread before you're changing a spare on the shoulder of Highway 9. If you're prepping for a longer haul, our summer road trip readiness guide walks through the pre-trip checklist we use ourselves.

One more small thing that saves a lot of headaches: know where your spare, jack, and wheel lock key are. Wheel lock keys hide in glove boxes, under seats, or in the spare tire well, and a roadside tech can't remove a locking lug nut without one. Ten seconds of prevention.

After Year Five: What Are Your Options?

When the complimentary 5 years runs out, you have choices. Hyundai sells extended service contracts and roadside plans that can bolt on additional years. Your auto insurance policy likely offers a roadside rider for a few dollars a month. AAA is still a solid standalone option, especially if you own multiple vehicles across brands. And many credit cards include limited roadside benefits — check yours before paying for a duplicate.

Whichever route you go, the math is straightforward: one tow from Norman to a dealer in OKC can run more than a year of coverage. If you're keeping the car past the loan (and Hyundais generally reward you for doing exactly that), continuous roadside coverage is cheap peace of mind.

Have questions about your specific vehicle's coverage or want us to look up your remaining warranty term? Get in touch or stop by — we can pull it up in a couple minutes. Our service hours and directions are on the site, and walk-ins are welcome for quick questions.

Not sure how much of your Hyundai's roadside coverage is left, or whether it's time to plan for what comes after year five? Stop by Norman Hyundai on a Saturday morning or give us a call — we'll pull your VIN, check the dates, and answer your questions before you sit down.
